The Journal of Management & Organization will launch its special issue, with contributions from the CRSE network, on “Working as a self-employed professional, freelancer, contractor, consultant … issues, questions …and solutions?” at the ANZAM 2016 conference in December.

Michel Syrett, an established journalist, researcher, Director of The Cairn of Mental Health and CRSE member, lives with bipolar. He has been one of the few to study the differences between how the self-employed and employees feel about work. Michel argues that to understand the wellbeing of a freelancer, you have to look into four main areas: Financial Security, Mental Health, Social Support and General Wellbeing.

Independent professionals driving Europe’s employment revolution

The number of independent professionals, commonly referred to as freelancers, in the EU-28 rose by a quarter (24%) from 7.7 million to 9.6 million between 2008 and 2015.

This is according to new research published by IPSE, the Association of Independent Professionals and the Self Employed.

New Report Exploring the UK Freelance Workforce in 2015

There were 1.91 million freelancers in 2015, a rise of 36 per cent since 2008, according to new research conducted by Kingston University and commissioned by IPSE - now available in the Research Library.
