The number of independent professionals, commonly referred to as freelancers, in the EU-28 rose by a quarter (24%) from 7.7 million to 9.6 million between 2008 and 2015.

This is according to new research published by IPSE, the Association of Independent Professionals and the Self Employed.

There were 1.91 million freelancers in 2015, a rise of 36 per cent since 2008, according to new research conducted by Kingston University and commissioned by IPSE - now available in the Research Library.
